Athlete Mary Moraa was greeted with a touching surprise at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport upon her return from the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Oregon.
Richard Lagat, Moraa's fiancée and former volleyball player-turned-coach, got down on one knee and proposed to her, and she said "yes."
"Nothing can express how I am feeling right now." It's a fantastic evening. "Let those who hoped know that the chapter is closed," she stated, according to the Nation.
Moraa, who had finished fourth in the 800m event at the Prefontaine Classic after falling ill upon her arrival in the United States, was looking forward to a well-deserved break back home.

She had no idea that her homecoming would be a watershed moment in her life.
The Kenyan athletes were asked to stay behind as the other passengers disembarked, setting the stage for Richard Lagat's emotional proposal.
Holding a placard that read, ‘Will You Marry Me?’ Lagat made his proposal.
"I met Moraa in 2021 during the National Police Service passing-out parade in Embakasi. It was love at first sight. I am happy she said yes! She is an amazing girl, easy to be around with, cheerful, humorous, and a good dancer,” Lagat said after she acceded to his marriage offer.
