In a thrilling Carabao Cup third-round match, Dominik Szoboszlai's magnificent second-half goal propelled Liverpool to a comeback victory against Leicester City.

Leicester took an early lead just three minutes in, courtesy of Kasey McAteer's strike, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack against their Premier League hosts.

Liverpool responded with fervor, as young talents Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak struck the woodwork, and Jarell Quansah's effort was denied by Jakub Stolarczyk. The intensity of the contest kept spectators on the edge of their seats throughout.

Cody Gakpo emerged as the hero for the Reds, securing the equalizer with a skillfully executed finish shortly after half-time, a goal that almost eluded him earlier, thanks to Conor Coady's crucial goalline clearance.

The Dutch forward showcased his prowess once again, this time in a header that struck the bar, following a splendid combination play orchestrated by Doak and Elliott.

Shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute, Szoboszlai etched his name in the annals of the match by launching an unstoppable shot that thundered into the net off the crossbar, propelling Liverpool into the lead.

Leicester looked to respond as they sought a first victory at Anfield since 2000, but incessant pressure from the hosts eventually told with a third goal.

A nonchalant flick from Diogo Jota put the result beyond doubt as the 2022 winners reached the fourth round, where they will visit Bournemouth.

"It was one of my best"

Szoboszlai spoke to Liverpool's club media following the game, stating that the strike against Leicester was among the best in his catalogue.

"It was very special," he said. "I don't know if it was the best goal, I scored one of my best in the national team and also in Salzburg.

"But one of the best for sure."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also spoke about the Hungary international in his post-match press conference: "Since the first minute of training he has been impressive. He is a top bloke, a really top guy.

"I don't have to tell him to shoot, he knows better than I – he's really good. That is a really good skill. [It was a] super goal."
