After Victor Osimhen's attorney threatened legal action over a video the club uploaded online ridiculing him for missing a penalty, Napoli acknowledged on Thursday that they never intended to upset him.

A high-pitched voice could be heard asking "gimme penalty please" in the TikTok post, which was later removed, which showed Osimhen missing his penalty in the weekend 0-0 draw against Bologna.

The Serie A team said it "never intended to offend or make fun of Victor Osimhen" and referred to the player as a resource.

It stated that the video had been prepared in a creative, fun-loving atmosphere without "any intention of mockery or derision," as was typical on social media, especially TikTok.

Roberto Calenda, the player's agent, declared that the video had caused "very serious damage" and vowed to take legal action.

Osimhen has struggled with struggling Italian champions Napoli in the first few weeks of the season, but he has still scored three goals in six games.

After scoring 31 goals in all competitions for Napoli last season as they won their first league title since 1990, the 24-year-old has established himself as a local legend in Naples.

Osimhen is now in the process of discussing a contract extension with Napoli. His current deal expires in June 2025, and he was a target for Chelsea and Manchester United in the summer.
