The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a list of items that individuals arriving in Kenya must declare.
These items include inherited items, purchases from duty-free shops, and repairs or alterations to items taken abroad and brought back.
Others are gifts, business-related items or merchandise, currency above $10, 000, and all goods whose importation is regulated under the East African Community Customs Management Act (EACCMA).
In November, KRA enhanced vigilance across all ports of entry to enhance compliance with customs on restricted and prohibited items.
It claimed to have recently seen a significant increase in the amount of expensive cell phones and unreported, forbidden items being brought into the nation at several entrance ports, including firearms, magazines, drones, pornographic material, and illegal substances.

KRA flagged out, on average, 5% of all scanned bags between July and October of the 2023–2024 fiscal year. These bags were processed in accordance with relevant Customs regulations on passenger categorization.
