The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a reduction in the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene in its latest monthly review.

In the new pricing set for December, EPRA revealed that Super Petrol will decrease by Ksh.4.37 per litre, while Diesel and Kerosene will each drop by Ksh.3 per litre.

“For the period under review, the maximum allowable pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene have been reduced by Ksh.4.37/litre, Ksh.3.00/litre, and Ksh.3.00/litre respectively,” EPRA stated.

The Authority clarified that these prices include the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation as outlined in Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

With the adjustments, fuel prices in Nairobi will now stand at Ksh.176.29 for a litre of Super Petrol, Ksh.165.06 for Diesel, and Ksh.148.39 for Kerosene. In Mombasa, the prices will be slightly lower, with Super Petrol retailing at Ksh.173.05, Diesel at Ksh.161.82, and Kerosene at Ksh.145.15 per litre.

The new rates take effect from midnight, marking the second consecutive decrease in fuel prices.

EPRA attributed the price cuts to reduced landed costs for fuel products in November. “The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol fell by 4.46%, from USD 641.14 per cubic metre in October 2024 to USD 612.53 in November 2024. However, Diesel saw an increase of 5.76%, from USD 608.61 to USD 643.69 per cubic metre, and Kerosene rose by 1.87%, from USD 648.15 to USD 660.30 per cubic metre during the same period,” EPRA added.
