The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has waived tax interests and penalties worth Kes 209 billion for 227,071 taxpayers as of February 20th, 2024.
KRA announced after paying a total of Kes 14.5 billion in principal taxes.
”The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is pleased to report that so far as at 20th February 2024, 227,071 Taxpayers have benefited from waiver of penalties and interest amounting to Kes 209 billion under the ongoing Tax Amnesty Programme having paid a total of Kes 14.5 billion in principal taxes,” KRA said in a statement.
KRA introduced the Tax Amnesty Programme following the passage of the Finance Act, 2023, allowing taxpayers to apply for a waiver of penalties and interest accrued for periods up to December 31st, 2022, upon full payment of their respective principal taxes by June 30th, 2024.

Additionally, KRA has urged taxpayers with outstanding principal taxes and those who still need to file their returns to take advantage of the amnesty it has rolled out before the window period closes.
“We also encourage Taxpayers with ongoing tax disputes to expedite resolution of their cases within the Amnesty period by considering out-of-court settlements through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) framework.”
“This will enable them to take advantage of the ongoing Tax Amnesty, noting that the provisions on waiver of penalties and interest and on abandonment of taxes, were repealed by the Finance Act, 2023.”
