The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is embracing advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain to modernize tax collection and strengthen its role in international trade.

This initiative reflects the fast-paced technological advancements reshaping business operations.

Speaking at the KRA Summit 2024 in Nairobi, Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga emphasized the pivotal role of technology in revolutionizing taxpayer services and enhancing operational efficiency.

He noted that integrating tools like Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), AI, and Machine Learning would increase tax revenue while fostering transparency and trust in the system.

“KRA recognizes the transformative power of technology in taxpayer services and operational efficiency,” Wattanga said, emphasizing that these reforms will improve revenue mobilization and compliance.

The three-day summit, themed “Powering Trade Facilitation and Domestic Resource Mobilization in the Digital Age,” brought together global stakeholders to address tax challenges such as digital trade, cybersecurity, and gender equality in tax systems.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi underscored the importance of innovative tax frameworks to address challenges such as tax evasion and illicit financial flows.

The summit aimed to devise solutions that bolster Kenya’s tax system and encourage equitable contributions from all sectors.
