Elon Musk has renewed his legal battle against OpenAI, seeking to block the company from continuing its transition into a for-profit enterprise, according to a report by CNBC on Saturday.

Musk's legal team, representing him and his AI startup xAI, filed an injunction on Friday. The filing not only challenges OpenAI's profit-driven shift but also accuses the company of restricting its investors from backing competitors, a move Musk claims puts his startup at a disadvantage in the lucrative AI industry.

The dispute marks the latest chapter in the strained relationship between Musk and OpenAI, a company he co-founded in 2015 but departed in 2018. OpenAI, which initially launched as a non-profit, has since transitioned into a "capped" for-profit model and is now working toward becoming a for-profit public benefit corporation, a status that could attract significant investment.

Musk has publicly criticized OpenAI's shift, alleging that it strays from its original mission of making AI research widely accessible. He filed a lawsuit in March, accusing the company of abandoning its non-profit roots under CEO Sam Altman's leadership.

In response, OpenAI has dismissed Musk’s claims, suggesting his criticism stems from dissatisfaction after leaving the organization and pointing to his advocacy for open-source AI development as a competitive strategy.

The legal clash underscores the high stakes in the rapidly growing AI sector, where billions of dollars and industry dominance are on the line.
