Bolt is set to invest Kes66.9 billion in Kenya and Africa at large for its operations in the next two years.

The mobility company stated that the funds will be used to expand Bolt services in Africa thus creating opportunities for over 300,000 new drivers and couriers in 2023.

After unveiling operations in South Africa in 2016, Bolt now provides delivery and ride-hailing services in six more nations, including Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, and Tunisia. The platform has over 47 million users and 900,000 drivers.

Also launched in Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya, Bolt Business, Bolt's corporate travel division, provides nearby companies with safe and cheap travel options for their employees.

In just seven years, Bolt has provided more than 1 billion trips throughout Africa, and it anticipates that over 1 million drivers will be using the platform by the end of the next six months.

Bolt Founder and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Markus Villig stated that the company has created a strong team of 500 people in Africa over the past seven years.

He also assured their customers of the company’s commitment to investing in local communities for the long term.

“We will continue to grow our presence in Africa through this new investment which offers massive potential to create new jobs and income opportunities for drivers and couriers,” he said.

The Founder is currently on an Africa visit, with Kenya and South Africa at the top of his bucket list.

He will meet with senior government players, including the Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, the Executive Mayor of Cape Town, and the South African Deputy Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Competition, while visiting local Bolt teams in the two nations.

The Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary, the Cabinet Secretaries for Commerce, Investment, and Industry, ICT, and Transport, as well as the Nairobi County Governor, are some of the others.

In 2021, Bolt unveiled a brand-new option that let female passengers select a female driver for their trip.
