Absa Bank Kenya has appointed Abdi Mohammed as the lender’s new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer upon regulatory approval.
Abdi will replace Yusuf Omari who served in the position on an interim basis following the exit of former CEO Jeremy.
In a statement, the lender noted that the appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process conducted between October 2022 and February 2023.
The new CEO has over twenty-eight years of experience in the financial sector and has held various executive positions within Absa Group.
He is currently the Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania and acting Managing Executive for Retail and Business Banking, Africa Regional Operations, Absa.

Prior, he served as Chief Operating Officer for the Bank in Kenya.
Additionally, he has served as the Retail & Business Banking Director in Kenya and Zambia in Absa and as Operations Efficiency Manager, at Barclays Global Retail & Commercial Banking, London.
Abdi holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Kenyatta University, a Master in Business Administration, from Edith Cowan University and an Advanced Management Programme (IMD Business School – Switzerland).
