Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has noted that the government will stabilize the cost of Unga to Kes150, Kes140 and Kes120 thereabout.
Speaking during a media roundtable on Sunday, he said the government is optimistic that farmers will receive a bumper harvest and high yields at the low cost of production after they dispatched subsidized fertilizers to the food basket counties.
“That should be able to set the cost of Unga down to Kes150, Kes140 and Kes 120 and eventually we can stabilise the cost of Unga for the Kenyans. That should be fairly comfortable for all Kenyans” he added.
While speaking on the current prices of Unga, the DP said that maize flour is currently retailing at Kes178 as opposed to the former president's reign when unga was retailing at Kes230.
"There is a new government that has brought unga down by Kes 45 and Kes 50 all the way to Kes178 to Kes175.

However, in a spot check by Waza, Soko maize flour is retailing at Kes207, Pembe at Kes207 and Raha premium at Kes262.
He said noted that the government has prepared the farmers well by dispatching enough fertilizers to the 16 food basket Counties ahead of the long rains.
“If all factors remain constant, God being merciful and giving us good rains. We have prepared farmers well. All farmers have fertilisers and are ready for the long rains planting," he added.
Further, Gachagua has called out Azimio Coalition Leader Raila Odinga’s protests against the high cost of Unga saying it is double-speak.
“They are telling us that they going for maandamano for us to bring down the cost of unga. He never called for protests when unga was Kes230, why is he calling for them when it's at Kes178, it is double-speak,” he said.
Additionally, he said that the former Prime minister had the opportunity to bring the cost of unga down without calling for protests by advising the former president.
