Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa has dismissed claims on social media that he will be leaving the company terming the claims as untrue.

The CEO has just completed his three-year tenure.

In his defence, he has said his term is not tied to a three-year contract like his predecessors.

Ndegwa succeeded Michael Joseph, who had been serving in an acting role following Bob Collymore's passing, as the CEO of the telco in 2020.

He was the Managing Director for Continental Europe at Diageo PLC before joining.

He is in charge of Diageo's business operations in 50 nations throughout Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

The accusation follows the January appointment of Adil Arshed Khawaja as Safaricom's new chairman, barely more than a month after the resignation of John Ngumi.

The telco announced that Ngumi's resignation became effective on December 22.

Ngumi resigned from the Board in order to concentrate on advancing green hydrogen production throughout Africa.
