The CIC Group has begun a training program that targets at least 5,000 leaders from more than 3,000 cooperative societies in the country.
The training is centred on strategic management to strengthen them.
CIC Group Chief Executive Officer Patrick Nyaga noted that the Group is giving back by organising learning opportunities to ensure leaders successfully run their societies.
“The company is embarking on the training program to ensure that the leaders positively influence the various cooperative institutions they serve,” Nyaga said.

Further, he said that through the training and empowerment program, the members can benefit from visionary leadership and work together to build strong entities that will contribute to the growth of Kenya’s economy.
In addition to training, the group plans to train county cooperative officers in the coming months.
Kenya is one of the countries with the strongest cooperative movements on the continent.
The sector is estimated to contribute between 43 per cent and 45 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
The Cooperative Alliance of Kenya (CAK), the national apex organisation for Kenya’s Co-operative Movement, estimates that 550,000 individuals are employed in the sector.
The umbrella body has at least 14,000 registered member cooperatives, with individual members totalling over 10 million, with mobilized savings of over Kes250 billion, or 30 per cent of national savings.
