According to AFP, China Central Bank former deputy governor Fan Yifei has been found guilty of corruption.

Fan Yifei was investigated last November for “suspected violations of discipline and law”, a byword for alleged corruption.

According to a statement by the ruling Communist Party’s internal anti-graft agency, Fan had “severely violated professional duties” and was suspected of taking bribes.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said Fan had been dismissed from public office, had his illegal income confiscated and had been referred for criminal prosecution “in accordance with the law”.

According to the statement, his transgressions included attending and participating in banquets, tours, and golf “in violation of rules, " visiting private clubs, accepting gifts and money, and “trading power for sex”.

It said Fan “lost his ideals and beliefs… became politically indifferent, tried to disrupt the investigation, and engaged deeply in superstitious activities”.

Xi has made combating corruption a focal point of his ten-year administration. Last year, he defied political convention to secure a third term as China's leader.

According to official data, the programme's dragnet has captured more than 1.5 million officials.

Chinese authorities have portrayed the strategy as a necessary cleaning of state institutions. Still, detractors claim that Xi is also using it to eliminate political opponents.

The CCDI launched seven additional investigations of senior management at state-affiliated companies on Thursday, covering industries like mining, power generation, and aviation.
