Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has launched branded inspectorate vehicles to help county enforcement officers improve regional service delivery.
The vehicles, fitted with sirens and specialised equipment, will ease transport and handle emergencies during law enforcement operations done by the county enforcement officers.
Mung’aro said that the vehicles will ensure the inspectorate and enforcement operations are carried out efficiently to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, including paying county revenues by citizens.
“It is my pleasure to launch the transport and inspectorate-branded vehicles, and I want to ask you to work hard. I’ll make sure I deliver on my promise to make sure that you have all the necessary tools to work for the people of Kilifi,” he said.
Speaking during the flagging off of the vehicles at the governor’s official residence in Kilifi, Mung’aro warned the enforcement officers against mishandling the cars, saying that damages caused by carelessness would be severely punished.
Further, he warned against using county government vehicles for personal activities, including leisure travel.
Moreover, the officers will be inspected regularly, including alcohol-drinking checks for the drivers.
“Those who will be assigned cars, please take care of them. I have realized that many of the drivers assigned cars in the county feel like these are government cars. You also pay taxes. Don’t drive them carelessly because they are county cars, and you can enter every porthole”, he said.
“I have already told the transport department and every department of the county that any staff who mismanage property of the county will be directly surcharged. We are not getting people to do things the way they do.”
Mung’aro also said that the enforcement officers will soon be equipped with new uniforms and modern communication gadgets to coordinate during operations to ensure compliance with county regulations easily.
