The luxurious Safari camp Ngerende Island Lodge in the Maasai Mara has reopened since its closure in 2019 due to economic challenges and the coronavirus pandemic.
Ngerende Island Lodge has opened for both local and international visitors this week as the tourism sector comes from lockdown measures such as local and international flight bans, among others, that were introduced to curb the spread of the virus.
Players in the tourism sector took the total weight of lockdowns as visitor numbers dropped, causing the bulk of them to shut shop.
However, the sector is progressively recovering with increased daily visitor numbers once the lockdown measures were eased locally and internationally.
According to the Ngerende Island Lodge Owner, Eunice Kagai, while speaking to Capital Business, noted that the facility was adversely affected (by Covid-19), which led to the property's closure.
“But now, we are recovering and we have done renovation,” she added.
Ngerende manages two establishments in the sizable Masai Mara National Reserve, Ngerende in the Wild Lakeview and Ngerende in the Wild Riverview, both of which have 16 upscale suites with enough for 32 guests each.
During high season, visitors spend between $2,000 and $800.
The property was completely booked at the time of the interview because of the upcoming Wildbeast migration.
