President William Ruto has commissioned the assembling of the Toyota Fortuner at the Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA) by CFAO Motors in Mombasa County.

CFAO has also injected Kes 120 million into AVA for tech upgrades and training.

Further, the plant will employ 100 people directly and 500 indirectly and plans to source parts locally through technology transfer and technical know-how.

“In our first year, we target to assemble 350 vehicles, with plans for a progressive increase in line with the National Automotive Policy and rising market demand,” CFAO Chairman Dennis Awori said.

Following the recent merger with DT Dobie, the Fortuner production line has been added to CFAO Motors Kenya's lineup of locally built vehicles.

The Land Cruiser LC79 series, Hino trucks and buses, Hilux single and double cab pickups, and the Toyota Hiace (mini-bus) are locally assembled by CFAO Motors at the AVA.

Other vehicles at Thika's Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers assembly plant include Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses, Hyundai trucks, and Volkswagen passenger cars.

CFAO Motors Kenya Managing Director Arvinder Reel noted that the anticipated operationalization of the National Automotive Policy will push the automotive industry into exponential growth in locally assembled vehicles.

” These vehicles not only offer more job opportunities and increased local components manufacturing capacity but give Kenyans an opportunity to own brand new vehicles more affordably.”
