Two directors of the park where five KCPE candidates drowned during a fun day out have been arrested.

Uasin Gishu police chief Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the two arrests, adding that investigations into the event are ongoing pending the duo's arraignment.

The tragedy happened on Saturday after five KCPE pupils who were out for a fun day before the national exams drowned after their boat capsized.

Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, stated that his ministry was working with the Interior Ministry to undertake "thorough and conclusive investigations into the incident."

The five pupils were part of a group of Standard Six and Standard Eight students accompanied by teachers to a hotel for recreational activities, according to a police complaint.

Five kids in Standard Eight drowned, while one student in Standard Six survived and was transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital with a severe oxygen deficit.

Meanwhile, Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii made a visit to the families devastated by the tragedy, adding that the county administration will work with them to ensure that the deceased are properly buried.
