On Wednesday, 29th, the Anti-Corruption Court is scheduled to sentence two officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who were found guilty of accepting a bribe of Ksh.1 million, hiding evidence, and impeding the lawful duties of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers.

Cpl. Julius Onyango Oguma and PC Charles Macharia Wanjiru were found guilty of the crime during a previous hearing on November 23 by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court. They were remanded at the Industrial Area Remand Prison pending sentencing.

According to a report that the two detained a Chinese national at Kabete Police Station for entering the nation without the required documentation was received by EACC in November 2018.


The two officers allegedly threatened to take the Chinese national to court and demanded a Ksh. 1 million bribe in exchange for releasing him.

One officer was arrested after further inquiries by EACC detectives, and they were paid Ksh. 200,000 as part of the bribe that was demanded.

However, after firing multiple shots at the EACC investigators, the officer was saved and helped to flee by his colleagues, according to the EACC.

Following the Director of Public Prosecution's (DPP) approval of the commission's recommendations to charge the two with the offenses, the suspects were arraigned on May 29, 2022.
