Ugenya Sub-county police are looking into an incident in which people stormed the Sihayi police post and set fire to a village house after they thought a man had been murdered.

At a liquor store in Sihayi Trading Center, 32-year-old Chris Olunga is suspected of stabbing himself to death after getting into a fight with a friend over a drink.

Assistant Chief Christine Onyango of the Ligala sub-location claims that following the alleged murder, the deceased's body was discovered lying on a sidewalk close to the bar.

He claimed that after that, the body was transferred to a private mortuary in Sega town, a move that reportedly infuriated the locals. They insisted on knowing the details of the man's murder as well as the reason the police hurried to transfer the body to the mortuary without even alerting the man's family.

According to the administrator, this made them storm the police station and demand answers. From there, they burned the suspected killer's house and then went back to the trading center and burned a portion of the liquor store.

Although Onyango confirmed the incident, he clarified that the suspect had previously turned himself into the police at Sihayi police post and had been taken and imprisoned at Ukwala Police station by the time the bloodthirsty members of the public found him at home.

In the meantime, inquiries have already been made to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
