The professionals at the center attended to the youngster, only to learn that the infant had died before being taken to the facility.

An on-duty clinical officer expressed alarm over the infant's death and contacted Ndaraweta Police Post officers, who attended.

"I think an age assessment should be done first so that we know what charges are to be preferred. A postmortem will also show us the right procedures to be followed. For now, we cannot conclude that she killed her child till more evidence comes up," said Ali.

The infant's body has now been transferred to the Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
