Police officers have arrested a 14-year-old kid for reportedly belonging to a terror gang that was tormenting other young boys in Mutithi village, Mwea West sub-county.

The boy was apprehended following many complaints from village parents, who reported the incident to Mutithi Police Post before being referred to Kiamaciri Police Station.

According to reports, some of the parents said that the youngster, who sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations last year, had been targeting younger boys in Grades 4 through 7 and forcing them to steal money from their parents.

"My child had dropped out of school because he was afraid of being attacked by the gang leader..."I know his parents well because he was a Class 8 last year," said one dad, Peter Murage.

Esther Nyamboke, another parent, alleged that the suspect was pushing her grandson to steal rice from her house and give it to him to sell or fear being beaten.

Another resident, Francis Muthike, stated that the situation became public after his grandson threatened to jump into a 30-foot well in his complex after failing to pay the group Ksh.6,000.

“My grandson who is a Grade 5 pupil had been stealing bags of rice in my store without my knowledge to sell and take the money to the gang. I saved him from throwing himself into a well and when he narrated the whole story to me, I could not believe it,” Muthike said.
