Police officers in Yatta, Machakos, have arrested two people possessing donkey meat bound for Nairobi butcheries.

The van, which was supposed to be traveling to a Nairobi market, was transporting 12 donkey carcasses.

The vehicle was stopped at the Kwavonza trading center in Katothya village, Kanyonyo sub-location, Machakos County.

Police apprehended two individuals at a homestead, where they recovered donkey offal and intestines. A third suspect escaped.

"Our officers responded after being tipped off by members of the public. The mastermind nearly fled, but two persons are under police arrest, according to Yatta OCPB Ben Baraza.

According to the authorities, the vehicle carried donkey meat properly wrapped for the Nairobi market.

The suspects will appear in Kitui court on Monday, 22.
