Eight remandees from Koru police station in Muhoroni, Kisumu County who were supposed to appear in court on Thursday escaped on Wednesday evening while being escorted to the latrine.
According to police, the detainees from Kodiaga numbering 10 were brought to the station on Wednesday ahead of arraignment at the Menara law courts.
They escaped after wrestling down a police officer.
“As PC Kemei was opening the cell's door the other nine remandees pushed the door and PC Kemei fell down due to the impact. As they found their way outside and ran in different directions, PC Gachie became overwhelmed as he tried to scare them by firing in the air,” read a police report.
However, two of them who were in handcuffs were later rearrested
