Detectives from Machakos County's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detained six people accused of being part of a theft network that had been hiring cars and then stealing them.

According to Machakos DCIO Nzioka Singi, the suspects were targeting Prados and Isuzu Dmax vehicles while claiming to be hiring them for weddings.

The accused are reported to have booked the vehicles in Nairobi to travel to Machakos. They then send the surprised driver to the building where the bride will be picked up.

According to reports, they blindfold the driver and transport him to a waiting car, expel the car tracker, and drive the stolen car to unknown locations.

Singi announced that, in coordination with Interpol, they had retrieved two vehicles from Tanzania, including a Toyota Prado with the foreign registration number plate T443 DMW.

Two of the six arrested remain in Machakos Prison, and four appeared before Principal Magistrate Mary Otindo on Wednesday. The cases are scheduled to be heard jointly.

The four are charged with robbery with violence after allegedly robbing motor vehicles with registration numbers KDH 908T and KDL 030Y on December 2, 2023, in Machakos.

Singi also stated that numerous automobiles have been stolen from Nairobi and taken to Machakos since last year, advising individuals conducting similar companies to remain careful.
