As they await the High Court's decision in her murder case, the family of late businesswoman Monica Kimani is hoping for some sort of closure.
The High Court is scheduled to rule on Friday, February 9, regarding the charges against former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe and Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie, for Monica's murder.
The businesswoman's brother, George Kimani, has expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged legal proceedings and expressed hope that the much-needed justice will ultimately give the family closure.
“It has really taken long, we have been going to court for over five years, we knew the matter would come to an end last year so that we can all move on. We have tough days, especially our parents but we just cope,” he told Citizen Digital.

With the parties' consent, the judgment that was supposed to be delivered on March 15, 2024, will be delivered tomorrow.
“Justice is the only thing that we want, it will bring closure to the family. The past years have not been easy on us, especially our mother she is the most affected. We try and protect her from the noise and hurtful things said about my sister but I believe all this will come to an end once we get justice,” he said.
The original date of the judgment, which was supposed to be October 6, 2023, was postponed due to reports of Lady Justice Grace Nzioka's illness.
The verdict was again postponed until January 26, 2024. This time, it was postponed after one of the accused, Maribe, was reported sick on January 26.
In the interview with Citizen Digital, George characterized his late sister as a generous, dynamic person who enjoyed giving and sharing. He went on to call her a generous woman.
“She was our firstborn and the driver behind the family business in South Sudan where she was the managing director of our company. She was my boss, a good friend and hardworking. It was painful losing her in that cruel manner,” he told Citizen Digital.
“Those who knew my sister at a personal level know that she was a giver, nurtured and brought out the best in people. I learnt a lot through her she ushered us into her company and help us. She was a loving sister; she played a very big role in our milestones as a family. There are things that she bought us that we can never forget,” he added.
In court, George Kimani described the suffering the family went through when their business manager, Monica, passed away.
He said, "Her greatest mistake was believing that everyone was her friend. Her big heart made her welcome everyone and she didn't know the difference between friends and foes."
Almost six years later, George reports that while the family has retrieved some of Monica's possessions, they have not yet received her Ksh. 4 million Kiambu house.
"Almost everything we got is with the prosecution team; we haven't recovered the house yet. I think the case needs to end before we can get them back," he stated.
On September 19, 2018, Monica, who was 28 years old at the time, was killed in her Kilimani neighborhood apartment in Lamuria Garden.
On October 15, 2018, Maribe and Jowie were subsequently charged with the murder.
