A middle-aged man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter in Homa Bay County.

In his ruling, Homa Bay Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Soiutai said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) presented five witnesses to testify against the accused in the case.

This comes a few days after police officers arrested the chief of Giacong'e location in Ndai Constituency in Kirinyaga County for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

According to Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander Moses Koskei, the chief was taken into custody following a statement filed by the girl's family at Baricho police station.

The chief is allegedly accused of sexually assaulting the young girl and impregnating her before coercing her into terminating the pregnancy.

Further, Koskei confirmed that the chief was detained at Baricho police station as investigations proceeded.

Family members revealed that they had been searching for the missing girl since last Friday before finally reporting her disappearance on February 21.

They expressed regret over being unable to report the incident sooner due to the girl's absence.

The Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Jane Njeri, disclosed that her office promptly facilitated the official report upon being informed of the situation.

She said she will work with FIDA and victim protection organizations to guarantee the girl's welfare and take legal action.

Njeri bemoaned the seeming repetition of these kinds of events, pointing to a pattern of abuse that has to be addressed.
