Police officers have launched an investigation after a newborn baby's body was discovered in a homestead in Haga village, Siaya County.
The newborn baby's body was discovered at the homestead of Jackline Anyango and reported to the Karemo police station by Grace Otieno, the acting Assistant Chief of the Bar-Agulu sub-location.
According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, officers from the Karemo police post responded quickly to the scene. They determined that 20-year-old Yvonne Atieno, a house girl at a neighboring household, had delivered the baby.

Atieno said that she encountered labor troubles at night and attempted to seek medical help at the neighboring Bar-Agulu clinic, but the facility was closed.
The police chief added that the discomfort remained while she was walking to a neighboring homestead, where she gave birth and abandoned the baby at the compound. She vanished from the facility where the child was discovered dead in the morning.
Mr. Kimaiyo stated that the young woman was later transported to the Bar-Agulu clinic for assessment and treatment.
He claimed that the scene was examined and photographed by crime scene investigators, and the infant's body was taken to the Siaya County referral hospital mortuary to await autopsy.
