A federal court in the United States (US) found Sunna Sepetu and her co-accused, Nafise Quaye, guilty on March 28, 2024. 

The Worcester, Massachusetts, defendants were found guilty on one count of conspiring to launder money obtained through wire fraud. 

US Attorney Jane E. Young said in a statement released by the US Attorney's office for the District of New Hampshire that the defendants willfully accepted millions of dollars in proceeds from a wire fraud from a US victim and sent the money overseas to the fraudster.


"Between 2013 and 2019, the defendants received approximately $3.2 million from a fraud victim located in Texas. these proceeds were sent to bank accounts established by the defendants for various shell companies. The defendants then sent those fraud proceeds to the perpetrator of the fraud operating in Africa, while keeping a portion of the proceeds for themselves."

On July 8, 2024, the trial judge is scheduled to declare the defendants' sentences. 

Wema Sepetu, the 2006 Miss Tanzania, has a sister named Sunna Sepetu.
