A 30-year-old man has been accused of pretending to be a lawyer working for First Lady Rachel Ruto's office. 

The sequence of events leading to Masubo's arrest began when he reported to the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Officer, Peter Njeru Nthiga, on March 21. In his report, he falsely claimed to be a lawyer working for First Lady Rachel Ruto's office and expressed concerns about his safety, alleging that he was being followed by a suspicious vehicle. 

Thanks to the diligent work of the police, the truth was uncovered. Responding to Masubo's claims, detectives discovered that he had fabricated the story to intimidate his girlfriend's ex-husband, who coincidentally owned the car in question.


"Waziri Benson Masubo alias Benson Waziri Chacha, on the 21st day of March 2024, at the Office of Regional Criminal Investigations Officer Nairobi Area, within Nairobi County, reported that you are a legal officer attached to the office of her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya and there was a motor vehicle trailing you registration number KCU 521D make Toyota Passo with a view of harming you," reads official court documents on the same. 

"This prompted him (Nthiga) to dispatch a team of police officers to commence investigations and they established that the motor vehicle was not trailing you and it belongs to one Patrick Mwangi Kahuhua, a former husband to your girlfriend and you are a legal officer attached to the office of Her Excellency the first lady of the Republic of Kenya that."


Masubo was also accused of violating section 105(b) of the penal code by giving false information to a public official. 

"You (suspect) wanted to use police officers to intimidate and harass him (Kahuhua) for your personal scores which caused Nthiga to commence investigations which he ought not to have done, had he been made aware of the falsehood of your report," reads the court documents
