On Wednesday morning, a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer was apprehended by investigators from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) when attempting to extract a bribe from an M-Pesa fraud victim.

When the victim, Luke Nyasangah, reported the incident and the officer's demand for a Ksh. 100,000 bribe, the EACC swiftly took action. The DCI Officer, stationed at Ngano Police Station in Nyandaraua County, was apprehended, demonstrating the EACC's commitment to combating corruption.

Upon reporting the fraud to Nyasangah, the victim found himself in an even more distressing situation. The DCI officer, instead of offering assistance, allegedly demanded a bribe of Ksh. 115,000 to aid in the recovery of the victim's lost funds.


After learning of the development, Nyasangah was ambushed by EACC, which reportedly discovered him demanding a bribe to continue the investigation.

Nyasangah informed the complainant that a bribe was required to make it easier to find the scammers.

The suspect has been detained at the Charagita Police Post while an additional investigation is being conducted.

The ethics body's efforts to eradicate bribery and corruption nationwide, particularly among those in positions of authority like the police, include the arrest.
