Police officers have arrested five suspected group members vandalizing Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) equipment in the Kondele of Kisumu County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives ambushed a group of around 50 people while they were in the act on Saturday.

Stephen Okunya Onyango was captured while holding nine binding roll wires and three aluminum cross-arm metal supports, which he had stolen.

Onyango was subsequently interviewed, and he divulged the location of his accomplices.

"The operation was extended to the car wash area of Kondele, where Eddy Ochieng, Benard Owuor, Biron Wanga and George Otieno were rounded up. From them, the officers recovered 14 drums of aluminum conductors and seven earth rods," said DCI.

The suspects will stay in police custody until their arraignment on April 15.

Meanwhile, a Toyota Axio, an Isuzu D-Max, and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing suspects have been impounded.
