A family is in shock after their 19-year-old daughter Faith Musembi, a Mount Kenya University (MKU) student, was found dead at her apartment in Thika
Her father, Boniface Musembi, told media that they received a call on Wednesday from an unknown man seeking a Ksh.20,000 ransom for his daughter's release. The caller used the deceased's phone.
Musembi stated that his wife urgently transferred the money for their daughter's life while he left for Thika to handle the situation.

He proceeded to Thika Police Station and reported the incident but claimed that the authorities minimized it and regarded it as a prank by the dead, her friends, or her boyfriend.
Musembi went to MKU for aid in finding her daughter after being dissatisfied with the police station's services and response. It was almost midnight by then, so he spent the night at the university.
Musembi went to his daughter's residence on Thursday morning, only to find it padlocked. He yelled out her name multiple times but received no response.
He inquired about the deceased's movements with a vegetable vendor outside the home, who informed him that she had sold the veggies the day before.
Musembi stated that he returned to the Thika DCI office to report the occurrence. However, the officers he met with discounted the incident as a technique commonly used by kids to siphon money from their parents or relatives.
Musembi returned to his daughter's home, determined to find out where she was and broke in. He was shocked to see her dead inside.
An examination at the Thika General Kago Funeral Home, where the girl's body is lying, revealed that she died as a result of heavy bleeding.
A post-mortem revealed that she suffered from uterine hemorrhage caused by an abruption of the placenta.
