Police officers in Migori County are investigating the death of an officer assigned to Suna West Sub County who shot himself at his home.
According to Nyatike sub-county police chief Dorothy Migarusha, the dead, Gipson Omari, shot himself on Sunday morning in front of his wife and children.
Migarusha said the 31-year-old, who shot himself in the chest, was taken to Life Care Hospital and died while being treated.

According to the sub-county police commander, the deceased was on a night patrol with another officer before killing himself.
She said that the cop excused himself at approximately 3.30 a.m. to run to his residence to address some concerns.
Migarusha said the other police officer who was doing the night patrol with the deceased heard a gunshot a few minutes later, and he rushed to Omari’s house only to find him bleeding on the chest.
Migarusha stated that the second police officer who was on the night patrol with the dead heard a gunshot a few minutes later and raced to Omari's residence, only to discover him bleeding on the chest.
She claimed additional policemen reacted and brought him to the hospital, where he died while being treated.
According to the Nyatike sub-county police chief, their preliminary inquiry revealed that the deceased's wife called to request that he purchase electricity tokens.
According to Migarusha, the deceased's widow said that Omari entered the house and shot himself before engaging her.
The deceased's body has been transported to the Migori level four hospital mortuary while police investigate.
