A man has been convicted by a Narok court for drug trafficking and has been ordered to pay a fine of Ksh.50 million or serve a ten-year jail term.

The suspect, Simon Githaiga Kimani, pled guilty to the allegations brought against him and was convicted and punished for violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act No. 4 of 2022.

"As a consequence, Kimani faces a substantial fine of Ksh.50,000,000, or alternatively, a ten-year prison term if unable to pay the penalty. This verdict underscores the gravity of drug-related offenses and serves as a deterrent to potential offenders," said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in a statement.

"The prosecution, led by Ms. Peninnah Mwaniki PPC, presented facts and documentary exhibits after the suspect pleaded guilty."

Resident Magistrate Bett Ngayo determined that the accused person was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt due to the amount of evidence presented.

The ODPP then placed drug traffickers on notice, warning them of the terrible repercussions if the government caught up with them.

"This court verdict serves as a clear warning that perpetrators of such heinous crimes will be held legally liable," said the ODPP.
