Bhang worth Ksh. 3.5 million has been destroyed outside the Isiolo Law Courts after a ruling on the case.

Speaking at the Court Grounds, where she presided over the exercise, Lucy Mutai, Chief Magistrate at the Isiolo Law Courts, said on Friday that the move was aimed at ensuring that outlawed substances do not re-enter the market, supporting the fight against drug and substance abuse.

She stated that the bhang in issue weighed 120 kilograms and had a street worth of at least Ksh. 3.5 million, but the counterfeit alcoholic drinks were delivered by the Kenya Revenue Authority with no excise tax paid.

The magistrate said that the issue of bhang was of considerable concern, with many individuals committing major crimes due to its overuse. Reducing it to ashes would guarantee that it would not resurface in the market under any circumstances.

Deputy County Secretary Mohamed Boru of the Isiolo County Government praised the coordination between government enforcement units and the judiciary in ensuring the success of the war on drug and substance abuse, noting that continued drug seizures, successful prosecution of those involved, and destruction of illegal substances were critical to ensuring a safe environment for youths.

Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Musango and Isiolo Interfaith Network Secretary Bishop Stephen Kalunyu praised the Isiolo Law Courts, led by Chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai, for expediting drug-related matters, bringing perpetrators to justice, and destroying drug substances as soon as the cases are effectively resolved.
