U.S. President Joe Biden called for an end to political violence after Republican candidate Donald Trump was shot in the right ear during a rally on Saturday.

Biden's team has stopped all political communication, including advertising denouncing Trump.

"There's no place in America for this kind of violence. It's sick," Biden said, adding he had been thoroughly briefed on the matter and planned to talk to Trump. "Everybody must condemn it," Biden said.

The FBI has named 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the suspect in the attempted assassination of former United States President Donald Trump.

The president, 81, was visiting a church in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, when the incident occurred and then returned to his home. After issuing a written statement, the Delaware beach house in his motorcade.

The White House said Biden later spoke with Trump, 78, over the phone but did not disclose the nature of the call.

A Biden campaign official, who declined to be identified due to the delicacy of the situation, stated that the team was "working to pull down our television ads as soon as possible" in reaction to the gravity of the situation. The official declined to provide more information.

Biden's political future has been in doubt since his weak debate with Trump on June 27 prompted his party's demands that he step aside and allow a younger candidate to run in November.
