An investigation is underway following the reported suicide of a teacher in Kirinyaga County. According to Mwea-East Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga, the body of 51-year-old Danson Kariuki was discovered in Mirera village. Kariuki was a teacher at Urumandi Primary School in Murinduko Ward.

"My officers found the teacher hanging from a tree after being alerted by local residents," Nyaanga reported.

The residents of Kirinyaga are increasingly concerned about the alarming rise in suicide cases across the region. Local leaders, including Kirinyaga Counselor Chairman Kamau Muchira, believe the incidents are driven by factors such as substance abuse, social issues, and stress, particularly among men and youth.

"The primary school teacher took his own life under unclear circumstances, leaving the community, students, and fellow educators in shock," Muchira said.

Counselors in the area have stressed that such tragedies might be prevented with adequate support services. The body has been transported to a nearby mortuary.
