Police officers have arrested a woman accused of sexually abusing and exploiting minors at her daycare in Wangige Market, Kiambu County.

According to court papers, Teresia Wambui Kihagi's three-year-old creche included more than ten children, all of whom are thought to have been victims of her exploitation.

During her arraignment on Tuesday, the court heard that Kihagi's phone was taken as she was attempting to crush the evidence. The phone will be recovered and processed for use in court.

"The respondent is alleged to have been engaging the minors who are aged between two and four years in sexual activities, and touching their genitals while recording of them while on the act in the said day care," reads a court document in part.

Investigating officer Nicodemus Musembi stated that her phone numbers would be searched to determine the beneficiaries of the films, and the Equity pay bill her creche has used would be reviewed.

Musembi also informed the court that recording statements from impacted parents is impractical and can only help investigations through an intermediary.

He consequently requested that the suspect be kept for 21 days to allow for further investigations while she passes a mental evaluation exam.

Meanwhile, the children have been sent to various medical institutions for assessment.
