A police officer was apprehended on Wednesday along the Nakuru-Mogotio Road in Nakuru County for allegedly transporting charcoal in a Land Cruiser.

The officer, identified as Benjamin Wasike, a Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) for Tiaty West, is now facing multiple charges.

According to the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), officers received intelligence about a vehicle carrying bags of charcoal and heading toward Nakuru. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver reportedly refused to pull over, prompting a high-speed chase.

The pursuit extended to Naivasha before the vehicle circled back to Nakuru Town. It was eventually intercepted at the Safaricom roundabout with the help of reinforcement. Authorities confirmed the arrest at Nakuru Police Station, where Wasike was disarmed. He was found in possession of a pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 20 bags of charcoal. Wasike was subsequently charged with the unlawful use of a motor vehicle and transporting charcoal without authorization.

The officer was released on Ksh's cash bail. 100,000. His case is scheduled for mention on December 23.
