A family in Maweche village, Mombasa, is grieving the loss of their loved one, Mary Trizzer Obwor, who succumbed to injuries allegedly caused by a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer.

Trizzer passed away at Coast General Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment for 15 days after being injured in a shooting incident.

The tragedy reportedly occurred when a KDF officer from the Mtongwe Military Base opened fire during a public altercation over an unpaid fare dispute with a matatu tout. Trizzer, who was at home at the time, was hit by a stray bullet.

“She was shot in the stomach, and the bullet exited through her back, completely perforating her intestines,” said her brother.

According to the family, bullets recovered from the scene were confirmed by a DCI officer to have been issued to KDF personnel.

The incident also resulted in the deaths of two other members of the public, while one person remains in critical condition.

The grieving family has demanded justice and accountability from the authorities but expressed frustration over what they believe is a lack of action.

“Our pleas seem to be falling on deaf ears with each passing day,” Trizzer’s brother added.

The tragedy has sparked concerns about the conduct of security forces and raised questions about the safety of civilians in public spaces. The family, supported by community members, is calling on the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
