Four members of the same family are charged in the murder and dismemberment of a Chinese model. Some of her body parts were found in a pot of soup.
According to the local media RTHK, Abby Choi, a model in China's elite scenes, was allegedly murdered by her ex-husband and his family. Alex Kwong, 28, Choi's ex-husband, Anthony Kwong, 31, and their father, Kwong Kau, 65, are charged with her murder. Jenny Li, Alex Kwong's mother, has been charged with obstructing the justice system. the four were denied bail after appearing in court on Monday.
Investigations into the whereabouts of the model began on Wednesday after she was reported missing. Two days later, parts of her body were found at a house in the city's Tai Po district, and police also found a meat slicer, an electric saw and some clothing belonging to the victim.
Police said Choi's ex-husband was apprehended on Saturday at a ferry pier on one of the city's outlying islands. On Friday, his sibling and parents were arrested.on Sunday, police found a skull, several ribs and hair believed to belong to the model in a large pot of soup.
Abby Choi was a model and social media influencer with over 100000 followers on Instagram and has graced the covers of famous magazines such as L'Officiel Monaco and attended this year's Paris Fashion Week.
According to a police report, they believe the murder was premeditated and well-planned, as Choi was planning to sell a luxury property in Ho Man Tin's Kadoorie Hill neighbourhood. Choi paid for the property herself but registered it in her ex-husband's name to avoid paying stamp duty. Her ex-family husband was allegedly living on the property.
Police believe Choi's former brother-in-law offered to drive her to her daughter's school but rather knocked her out and brought her to a Tai Po flat, where she was butchered. According to police, the suspects used a sail to cover the walls of the flat and wore face shields and raincoats to avoid getting bloodstained.
