After reportedly assaulting a guy in Githurai 44, Nairobi county, an armed robber was shot and killed by police officials on Friday night.

The gangster died after being shot dead while attempting to flee the scene on a motorcycle while his accomplice fled in the dramatic incident that led to a police chase.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident is on record via CCTV. It showed the attacker ambushing a man outside his gate after packing his car while his accomplice waited on a motorcycle far away.

The thug emerged from a row of dark vibandaskis opposite the gate and trained his handgun at the unfortunate man's jugular as soon as the man had stopped his car and gotten out to unlock the gate, according to DCI.

In what appeared to be an intentional act, the attacker looted the already terrified guy before his companion emerged from the shadows and climbed aboard the bike as the pair sped off.

Unfortunately for the pair, Kasarani detectives in the patrolling area overheard the commotion and the robbery victim's screams and hurried to the spot, detaining the bandits.

They were unaware that detectives from Kasarani on patrol had parked their vehicle next to a dark wall on a bend a mile away. Thus, the Subaru was hurriedly lit and roared for duty when they received the distress call followed by police communication from control," stated the statement.

After noticing the prestigious hatchback, they observed a motorcyclist doing a sharp U-turn in the direction of Mokoe Road.

The DCI claimed that when the criminal getting off the pillion started shooting at the police car, the detectives replied by shooting the criminal dead.

"The armed thug abruptly dismounted and began sprinting on foot toward a pathway while firing towards the police as they closed in on the bike. No other choice was left, so one of the crime fighters fired, subdued him, and ended the pursuit "DCI captured.

The police were able to seize the criminal's gun, but his partner was able to flee.

The chase ended with the recovery of one Czeska pistol loaded with four 9mm bullets, according to the DCI.

Since then, the body of the dead has been sent to City Mortuary pending identification.
