A guy allegedly impersonating a Firearms Licensing Board (FLB) officer was detained by police in Machakos County over the weekend.

At his Nguluni residence in Matungulu, Dominic Ondari Ombogi, 42, was found by officers possessing various forged FLB certificates and stamps.

After intelligence reports identified him as the leader of a terrible organization that gave phoney firearm permits to unscreened applicants, a court order was obtained from Kahawa Law Courts, leading to his arrest.

Ondari has been free on a Sh 500,000 bond while defending himself against charges of stealing a firearm and creating a document without authorization in the City Court, according to police on Monday.

In the ongoing investigation, the guy is answering charges of tricking a Kajiado kid into thinking he could change the firearm's certificate into his name, then putting the unwary victim to interminable paperwork that resulted in the loss of the weapon.

Authorities said that preliminary investigations have shown that Ondari, who purports to be a well-connected resource person on the weapons board, has only ever functioned in the criminal underground and has never held the position he claims to hold at the Firearms Licensing Board.

The Central Firearms Bureau seal, various FLB and Armatech Kenya Ltd rubber stamps, four civilian firearm certificates, forged letters allegedly from the Nairobi region police command, numerous bank statements, and various filled-out firearm application forms were all seized upon his arrest, according to detectives.

Police claimed that they had also proved that Ondari, along with others who impersonate board members, preys on helpless victims eager to be approved for gun ownership, erratically handing out bogus certificates to anyone as long as good money is exchanged.

He even occasionally renewed the credentials for a fee of Sh 6,000, according to the police.

Ondari will be in police custody for possessing forgery tools and creating documents without authorization when the case is presented in Kahawa Law Courts on March 10, 2023.
