The investigation into the unsolved death of 23-year-old Geoffrey Mwathi has been taken up by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations' homicide unit.

After a request for a comprehensive investigation by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the DCI assumed control of the investigation on Friday morning.

Following the instruction, the homicide investigators started a "new and thorough probe" that included visiting the Redwood Apartments in the Kasarani neighbourhood, where DJ Fatxo, a Kikuyu benga performer, lived.

Interior designer Mwathi, 23, was seen on surveillance film in the incident on February 22 at Redwood Apartments near Safari Park Estate falling from a window of a home that DJ Fatxo, real name Lawrence Njuguna, was renting out.

Mwathi, along with his cousin and driver, reportedly partied with the well-known Mugithi singer all night before going to DJ Faxto's home.
