Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are currently exhuming the body of slain interior designer Geoffrey Mwathi (Jeff) at his parents' home in Likia, Njoro sub-county, Nakuru County.

The body is being exhumed for a fresh autopsy, as part of the ongoing investigations into his mysterious death.

The autopsy will be carried out by the government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

In a tent that has been erected at the property, a fresh postmortem will be performed in front of family members.

The team directing the exhumation and new autopsy of the remains included detectives from the homicide division.

Mohamed Amin, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, joined a team investigating Jeff's murder on Tuesday and gave the order to exhume the remains for a new and separate autopsy.

Amin travelled to Roysambu, the location of Mwathi's death, as detectives gathered further evidence to support their inquiries.

Amin was accompanied by homicide unit investigators who wanted to recreate the scene so that they could conduct additional research.

He claimed that he went to the location because there were a lot of questions about the circumstances surrounding Jeff's death and he wanted to understand what had happened.

Mwathi, age 23, died after falling from the 12th story of the Redwood Flats in Kasarani on February 22, 2023.

A figure of interest in the case is the singer DJ Fatxo from the Mugithi.

Before they headed to the singer's Redwoods flat home, Mwathi spent the day with him.

At the residence with the two women were the singer's cousin and driver.

According to authorities, Jeff saw the musician hours earlier to discuss an interior design project and was given the assurance that he would receive a down payment and start working that morning.

DCI says Jeff was killed and has ruled out suicide as the cause of death.
