On Friday, police officials in Baringo County recaptured 225 goats stolen by robbers in the Baringo North sub-county.

The cops from the broader 'Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift' squad sprung into action after a distress call was received in the area at Ngaratuko grazing pasture.

As per a statement made on Saturday by the National Police Service (NPS), the police stopped the bandits in the Tiaty East sub-county and overcame them following a fire exchange.


"On April 21, the security team attached to the ongoing 'Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift' quickly reacted to a distress call of marauding bandits who stole 225 goats grazing at Ngaratuko Grazing within Baringo North Sub-County," according to the statement.

"After a fierce firefight, the security team subdued the bandits and recovered all of the stolen animals."

"We acknowledge the vital role played by local residents in the fight against banditry and cattle rusting, and applauded them for their support that led to the recovery of stolen livestock," the statement continued.


Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Interior Cabinet Secretary, recently increased security in the North Rift region to eliminate the banditry threat.

"We are increasing the number of security agents." "We are doubling them, and as I have stated, this deployment will not end with the end of the operation," the CS said in Parliament.
