Monica Kimani's murder suspect Jowie Irungu spoke in court on Thursday about the night he allegedly shot himself after an argument with his then-girlfriend Jackie Maribe.
Irungu appeared before Lady Justice Grace Nzioka in the Milimani court as the murder trial of businesswoman Monica Kimani continues. He told the court that the gun went off in Maribe'a's house shortly after they argued over some messages he saw on Maribe'a's phone
she said that they argued again about the message she saw on his phone, and they threw words at each other. Adding that, she was tired and threw out his clothes. She wanted to leave the house because the same message was repeated, and she was drunk and angry and she diHe claims that when he was moving clothes from Maribe's house and throwing them out, the gun went off, and a bullet hit him in the chest.
"When I was moving my clothes, the gun went off and hit me in the chest, so I went to my neighbour Brian," he added. The court also heard how he got hold of the neighbour's alleged gun. "Brian brought the gun because they were arguing with the woman," he said.

According to Irungu, he told the police a conflicting story about his gunshot wound, as the gun's owner, Brian, told him he had obtained it illegally and would be in trouble if found.
"Brian told me a story where I say thugs attacked me because Brian illegally obtained a gun," he added. According to Irungu, Maribe told her neighbour that she shot herself before they all piled into Maribe's car and drove to Langata Hospital. "They took me to Langata Hospital but were not ready for us.
