A Ugandan High Court sentenced a 20-year-old man to 24 years in prison for killing a one-year-old baby for ritual purposes.
According to the Daily Monitor, Richard Uchanda, who appeared in court through video conferencing from prison, acknowledged committing the crime on August 5, 2021.
Court documents state that Uchanda and David Opiyo murdered Tracy Alimocan in Alingiri Village in the northern region of Nwoya.
Witnesses reported seeing him take the deceased away from her parent's home, and after he was apprehended, they discovered Uchada without the infant.

He said he had abandoned her with another buddy, who rejected the charges. Later, the lifeless body was located in a nearby bush.
Uchanda admits to strangling the infant after being apprehended.
"He was planning to remove some of her body parts to give to a woman named Jessica who had promised to pay him Shs200,000 in exchange for the human body parts," the prosecution said, according to the newspaper.
During his court appearance on Monday, Uchanda pleaded with the deceased's family to pardon him, saying he killed the baby under duress to support his siblings.
