Kwale police are holding a 22-year-old lady after allegedly putting her newborn baby in a 10-foot pit latrine minutes after giving birth.
According to sources, the Form 4 student from Mudzi Mure Village in Matuga Subcounty gave birth around midnight and subsequently abandoned the infant.
After hearing sounds, residents rescued the baby at about 11 a.m. local time.

It was subsequently revealed that the girl who had given birth the night before had no idea where her infant was.
Matuga police were called, and the baby and mother were taken to Kwale Subcounty Hospital for treatment.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
